Scarab

Scarab grubs can do considerable damage to the lawn. The tiny larvae of the cockchafer and June beetle eat away at the roots at the bottom of the lawn. The result? Holes in the mat and yellowing of the lawn.

A healthy lawn according to Henri:

  • Prick the lawn with a special pricking roller or a pitchfork. This will aerate the lawn and create better air circulation in the top layer.
  • Rake the entire lawn with a wire rake. This way you will get all the loose material out.
  • You can control grubs chemically, but biological by deployment of nematodes is of course preferable.
  • Fertilize as needed. Depending on the time of year, take an organic fertilizer with appropriate levels.
  • Sow bare spots and rake the seed through the top layer. This can be done with different grass mixtures. Even in the fall you can still sow through. If the temperature is above 6 degrees, the seed can already germinate.
  • Sprinkle lime in the winter period. This is good for the Ph, or acidity, of the soil. Lime also ensures that fertilizers are better absorbed. By improving the growing conditions of the grass, you prevent the formation of moss. By spreading lime in the winter period, you also ensure that the next year the fertilizer is better absorbed by the grass.
