Pavement choices (part 1).

We thought this was a good opportunity to highlight these three categories. In the first installment of this "triptych," we take a closer look at concrete.

Concrete: for project and ornamental paving

When you think of "concrete," you probably think of practical, durable and boring paving that is relatively inexpensive. But in doing so, you are really selling this paving category short! Concrete is indeed rock hard and durable. It is suitable for heavy-duty surfaces: for project paving such as roads and parking lots, but also for heavy-duty private driveways, over which, for example, an SUV or truck drives every day.

But, besides being very practical, modern concrete is also very beautiful! It is available in multiple thicknesses, colors, finishes and shapes. For example, cleaved concrete stacking blocks have a rough surface, giving it a very rustic, natural look. Concrete patio tiles also come in different finishes and color schemes. This allows you to create an atmosphere and look for your patio that is in no way inferior to natural stone, for example.

So the concrete can be finished in different ways, each with a different effect:

Multiple brushed surface

The stone feels satiny soft and is walkable with bare feet. The colors are extra accentuated and therefore stand out better. The structure is very homogeneous and compact.

Hydrophobic properties

The stone absorbs significantly less water and therefore less chance of lime efflorescence.

Drumming

In this process, the stones are tumbled in a large, slightly inclined, rotating drum. As the bricks roll and collide, they undergo a kind of artificial aging process in which sharp edges are worn off and broken edges and corners are created. The result is an antique look, as you can see with the new Straight Block and Tumbelwall.

Overlay of natural stone

The natural stone aggregates used (such as basalt, granite and porphyry) provide a natural appearance and stable color. The incorporated micaceous sand gives the stone an elegant and shiny finish. Examples of natural stone coated stones Smartton Vintage Linea and Eliton Supreme.

Ball blasted

The surface of the stone is roughened by small stainless steel balls shot onto the surface under high pressure. This creates an appearance like that of natural stone.

Impregnation High-quality, double-applied protective coating on Smartton and Eliton

Maintenance is significantly reduced. The penetration of algae and moss into the stone is greatly reduced.

Hammered, curved surface of the Ageton

The surface of the stone is roughened by a mechanical hammer-blow treatment. This gives the surface and sides a rustic appearance. Together with the curved top layer, this results in a look inspired by nature.

Products

In addition to different types of project paving and patio tiles in various designs, there are also all kinds of construction materials available. Examples include concrete curb stones, which are necessary to prevent paving from shifting, wall elements, palisades and steps. You can see all these products on our REDSUN page and you can also click on them when you are drawing your design. You do this by scrolling down in the menu on the left to (for example) concrete tiles and clicking on your choice. Then you indicate in your drawing where they should be placed. Above your drawing you choose the color and the laying pattern. Finally, right above your drawing click on shopping cart and there you can immediately put your REDSUN tiles in your shopping cart and order!
