Pollard willows in your yard? Trim them now!

Henri's tips on pruning the pollard willow

  • The side shoots of the pollard willow are best pruned now: all the side branches on the trunk may come off.
  • Use sharp and clean tools.
  • Pruning shears or a small folding saw are ideal.
  • For the thicker branches, you can use larger loppers.
  • If the branches are even thicker, a chainsaw will do the trick. Use it only if you know how to handle it and, of course, with protective clothing and materials!

Tip

Check out our PlantEncyclopedia and find out how many willow species there are and what their ideal habitat is. There is bound to be a species among them that will fit beautifully in your garden. Use the sun and shade simulation in our garden design program and find out where the willow will look best.
