Low-stemmed fruit trees pruning (apple tree)

How to prune a low stem fruit tree

  • Cut away dead and diseased wood. Use clean and sharp tools, such as a hand saw, to do this.
  • Lighten the tree by removing old wood with pruning shears. If you leave too much wood, the tree will eventually grow into too large a tree, eliminating the effect of the low stem.
  • Make sure that you do retain enough of the fruitwood. This fruitwood is most often on so-called short shoots and ends of twigs.
