Start a new design
When creating a new garden design, you always follow a few important first steps:
- Click on "New design."
- No a name to your design at "Title"
- Click on "Save"
- You will be in the "Garden Designs" tab
- Choose "Continue drawing" and then you will enter the drawing
- Enter the zip code and house number of the garden plot under "Find your garden plot"
Once the maps and aerial photo are loaded, zoom in to check for differences between the cadastral surface and the municipality's map. To do this, turn off the aerial photo. If this is correct, also turn off the lot and keep the municipality's map.
- Now draw in the plot boundaries. To draw perpendicular or perpendicular lines, hold down the Shift key. With the "Close Polygon" button you close the beginning and the end with each other. The dots you now see distributed along the lines are there to make any curves.
Drawing out buildings
To design the garden, you first draw in the buildings. For this you plot the aerial photo and the plot. After this, you draw the walls as follows:
- Click on "Library"
- Click on "Building"
- Choose the stone wall "Wall" and draw with loose points, a rectangle or a circular shape
- Name the building
- Enter the height of the wall under "Dimensions Z"
- For example, if there is a wooden wall on this wall, copy the wall and change the material type. To do this, under "Dressings" choose the option "No Dressing". Then under "Colors" choose "Wood pattern" and select the appropriate type. Also enter height position from ground level under "Position Z" and the final height under "Dimensions Z". Enter the exact position so that the wooden wall will be exactly on top of the brick wall.
- Sign in doors below from the Library
- For doors, choose the direction of rotation at "Rotation Z"
- After this, draw in windows and/or glass walls from the Library. To give a line an end click on "Stop".
- Name the glass wall or window
- Enter the height of the glass wall or window at "Dimensions Z" and the height position from ground level at "Position Z".
Drawing out buildings
To draw in the pavement, start from the main building.
- Click on "Library"
- Click on "Pavement"
- Choose the type of pavement and draw with a polygon of single points, a rectangle or a circular shape
- Draw the pavement and hold down the CTRL key to snap (snap) the points to the drawn points of the building and use the Shift key for perpendicular and perpendicular lines. Already take into account the size of tiles or bricks. End the lines with "Stop"
- You can drag the dressing via "Move dressing" at the bottom right. Then you also know about cutting or sawing and from where you start laying the pavement
- After this, you can add, for example, gravel to your design in the same way. Select "Gravel, split or bark" to do this. By limiting paving you keep in mind drainage during heavy rainfall due to climate changes
- To draw in lawn or soil for borders, choose "Lawn, soil and sand" and draw in the same way. Along the property line ou a little space and draw parallel to it.
Yard fencing, trees and plants
You start by drawing in the yard fence.
- Click Library"
- Click on "Separation"
- Choose the type of yard boundary, such as a fence or a hedge and draw with a polygon of individual points. A trellis you can usually draw exactly on the property line so here hold down the CTRL key to make the points snap (snap) to the drawn points of the property line and use the Shift key for perpendicular and perpendicular lines. When drawing a hedge choose the center of the border.
- If you want to add trees, such as lime trees in your hedge, choose them under "Trees and Plants" from the Library and draw a line that fills in naturally with the appropriate amount of trees
- This way you can also draw different plants as single pieces, in rows or in rectangular areas. The tool calculates for you how many pieces will be placed on surface in a given length. By selecting and copying these, you can quickly place whole groups of the same plants in your design.
Printing your design
From your garden design, follow these steps:
- Click on "File"
- Click on "Print"
- Choose the size of the paper at "Page Size"
- Determine whether you want to print the drawing in portrait or landscape mode with "Page orientation
- Zoom the drawing in or out by scrolling and place it neatly in the frame by dragging
- Play around with these settings until you get about the right scale
- Then choose the exact scale from the row
- Determine whether you want the aerial photo, the lot or the map visible or invisible by turning them on or off with "Show aerial photo", "Show map image" and "Show lot background".
- Decide whether you want to print the design as a screenshot, save it as a PDF file or email it to someone. For the latter, choose "Share."
- Enter the recipient's email address
- Give the message a subject, such as "Sharing a digital garden design:
- Write a short message to the recipient and click "Send"
This allows the recipient to view your design in 2D and 3D, because by default you have already checked that you want to share the 2D garden design and the 3D garden design. Of course, if you want the recipient to add to your drawing, you must have a garDsign account to do so.
Viewing your garden design in 3D

- Look around with the mouse
- Fly higher with ALT+W (on Mac choose Option+W)

- If you want to fly faster, hold down the Shift key
- If you want to return to the selected viewing direction, press the Esc key
- Turn on "Show Shadow" to see shadows in your 3D garden design
- Slide the timeline to see the progression of shadows throughout the day
- Choose a date in the season bar to see the shade in that season
- If you want to go back to the 2D drawing, choose "Drawing tool"
This way you can go through the garden design. You will see all the buildings, plantings and yard fences you have drawn presented in a realistic way.
